In Cambodia

Hey guys. This place is a real eye opener. The people are so happy and friendly but the place is so dirty and run down. The palace and temples are very rich looking though. It is such a contrast.

I have a question for you to ponder and I would like your thoughts.

Is the money that tourists like me spend in this country (which helps keep poorer people in work) out weighed by exposing people to things, and a way of life, that is out of their reach right now? And if and when that way of life is possible will it ruin what is good about a country like this?

You might want to do some Googling to see if you can get some images and facts about what it is like here in Phonm Phehn (check my spelling... I've gone blank while typing this!) Cambodia. We are only spending one more day here then we are going to go and look at some more remote places.

I hope you are having a good break :)

Hey guys I'm at Singapore airport. Had to sleep on these giant beanbags we found in the terminal last night. Was quite cool really. I wanted to log on here so that (hopefully) Singapore might show up on our map!

I hope you are all having a good start to your holidays. Keep us all informed about what you have been up to :)

Netball

Congratulations to our fantastic netball team for winning the ASB Netball Trophy this year. We are soooooo proud of all you!. Please comment on some of the highlights of the game. Once I get the camera back I'll post some photos for us all to see.

On 7th of September 2010, Saint Patricks 'A' team travelled up to Westport to compete in the ASB Bank Primary Netball Challenge. We left the school at about 8:45 and arrived at the Solid Energy indoor stadium at 10:45. Captain Eilish got us all ready for the warm ups. After stretching and warming our muscles we had a quick game of half court. Finally the other team arrived and we started the game.
Our 1st game against Westport North. The positions were: Carla-GS, Tay-GA, Briana-C, Eilish.R-WD, Bridget-WD, Eilish.B-GD, Breesha-GK,Alexandra-WA, Brittany-WA, Kristina-GK. Everyone had a court time on both games. We won 18-14. Close game!

Our second game we played against Westland High school. They won last year so we thought we were going to lose. But by surprise we won! (25-12) By this time we were all so tired and worn out, but we kept going and giving all our effort. We kept trying and trying.

We are all so proud of EVERYONES performance. Great thanks to Sall & Helen, the awesomest coaches ever & also a thanks to the parents that took the time off work to take us up to Westport.

Fingers crossed for the girls next year (:

Week 5 Homework Task

Make a family tree in your homework book. Find out where your ancestors came from. Dig as deep as you can to find out as much as you can. Ask parents, grandparents, aunties, uncles and anyone that knows about your family. See how far you can go back.

List some 'wonderings' about your ancestors and where they came from. Here are some the the examples of my wonderings:

I wonder if my great, great, great grandparents had have stayed in Scotland or England or France what would my life be like now? What language or accent would I have?

I wonder what jobs my great, great, great grandfathers had

I wonder how my ancestors travelled from their countries to New Zealand? I wonder why they came? I wonder if they lived in any countries on the way?

Write at least 5 'wonderings'.

Tuesday

Hey guys. I'm not going to be in tomorrow. I'm still in my bed sick but I'm going to check the wiki and blog site in between naps! This is what I would like Room 5JP to do tomorrow:
- challenge yourselves with the division work we did as a whole class. Red group I would like you to work with people to help them. There are only a few that need a bit more practice
- make sure you reread the comments I put on your writing, think about your WALTs and continue with the writing you have been doing. Please explain it to the people who were absent last week
- once you have read all that you are meant to do then I would like you to find a good example of your WALT in a journal or another piece of writing in the class
- spend half an hour on your literacy boxes

Enjoy your day and post any questions about your day on here. I will try and get to them to answer :)

http://stpatricksseniorclasses.wikispaces.com/

We will talk more about this next term but get on and have a go with it.

Room 5CO I will talk to Mrs O about this idea once Room 5JP have had a go at it.

Keep it appropriate for a school Wiki!

Getting started

Hello Room 5CO and Room 5JP!

Welcome to our blog site!

To get us started I would like you to simply open up our blog site sometime during the week and say hello and put your name. Remember to only use your first name and your last initial (if there is someone else in these two classes with the same first name).

Remember some important internet safety rules when using this site (and others):
  • never give your full name
  • never give your phone number, address or email details
  • don't mention where you will be at a particular time
  • don't put any of that information on the net about anyone else
  • think carefully if you respond to anyone else's comments because they can't hear your tone of voice to determine if you are joking or serious
  • it is ok to have a debate with someone if you don't agree with their ideas but do it in a friendly manner
  • do not call people names or put them down
